Dear Friend of the Library,
All of us have been able to watch Salt Springâs new Library take shape over the last fourteen months. The Libraryâs new home is now almost complete, on time and under budget, and we will be open for business before the end of this year. The project was truly a team effort, one for which all the team members deserve their own gold medals.
Salt Spring will, finally, have a new library building that will meet community needs for the next fifty years. And, because of its design and its location, we can have a libraryâand yet so much more! Indeed, the Library could and should now become the heart and soul of our community. To do that, however, we need your support of the Libraryâs 2012 Annual Giving Campaign.
As already indicated above, we do not need any financial assistance either to complete the building or to furnish it. Rather, we are looking to the community to help us with our âenrichment and enhancementâ activities. For example:
⢠an already first rate childrenâs program series must be made even better;
⢠making our new teen room a âgo-to placeâ for that age group;
⢠funding for additional student help both during the summer and on weekends;
⢠additional support for a significant âopening yearâ expansion of the book collection;
⢠making more electronic databases and e-books available â both for use in the new building and to
download to your home computer or portable device;
⢠funding to offer library special events for all ages in the new program room.
Yes, itâs going to be a libraryâand how much more, however, depends on the amount of community support we receive. Can the Library Board, the 150 dedicated library volunteers who contribute so much of their time and energy, and Library patrons across the entire Island count on your generosity? In these uncertain financial times, we are grateful for contributions of any size, large or small. While the total amount raised is very important, so is the number of contributors. Please consider joining with the many Islanders who both appreciate what has just been built, and realize that itâs now time for our Library to continue to progress beyond âbricks and mortarâ.
Sincerely,
Stanley J. Shapiro
