Some weeks have passed since Salt Spring’s divisive referendum and it’s reassuring to see our community again moving forward rather than circling its wagons before firing inward. The Library, the Rainbow Road Pool, ArtSpring, our Conservancy, Salt Spring Literacy and many other local organizations continue to meet various needs. Efforts are again underway to improve health care on our Island and the Salt Spring Foundation is becoming an increasingly positive force. Some progress is even being made, finally, in dealing with our community’s social housing crisis. And all of this is happening as residents from both the “Yes” and the ”No” referendum camps have begun meeting to explore areas of cooperation rather than of conflict. We can also add to this constructive picture the fact that the current Fire Board is also proceeding in both a socially responsible and cost conscious manner. I am not on the current Fire Board nor have I ever served on any previous Board. However, I ha…Read more about Fire News: Current Fire Board Making Real Progress
Annual Library Giving Campaign
Dear Neighbours, It’s hard to believe close to a year has passed since our new Library building opened its doors. Since then, giant steps have been taken toward making our library what we always hoped it would be—the heart of our community. Adequate and well lit display space for the entire collection, local artwork throughout the building, an outstanding children’s collection, a program room heavily used both for library events and by other community groups, all this and so much more. Also, and certainly not to be forgotten, are all the donors who for some years have generously supported a wide variety of the Library’s past “enhancement” and “enrichment” initiatives. But with another year comes another…Read more about Annual Library Giving Campaign
A Library and So Much More!
Dear Friend of the Library, All of us have been able to watch Salt Spring’s new Library take shape over the last fourteen months. The Library’s new home is now almost complete, on time and under budget, and we will be open for business before the end of this year. The project was truly a team effort, one for which all the team members deserve their own gold medals. Salt Spring will, finally, have a new library building that will meet community needs for the next fifty years. And, because of its design and its location, we can have a library—and yet so much more! Indeed, the Library could and should now become the heart and soul of our community. To do that, however, we need your support of the Library’s 2012 Annual Giving Campaign. As already indicated above, we do not need any financial assistance either to complete the building or to furnish it. Rather, we are looking to the community to help us with our “enrichment and enhancement” activities. For example: • an a…Read more about A Library and So Much More!
