COVID-19: CRD Opens Outdoor Recreation Facilities

Effective May 14, outdoor recreation facilities will reopen at the Capital Regional District’s four recreation centres: Panorama Recreation Centre, Greenglade Community Centre, Sooke and Electoral Area Parks and Recreation Commission (SEAPARC), and Salt Spring Island Parks and Recreation Commission (SSI PARC).

The following outdoor facilities will be open:

  • Panorama Recreation: outdoor tennis courts, outdoor basketball court
  • Greenglade Community Centre: outdoor basketball court
  • SEAPARC: skate park, bike park
  • SSI PARC: outdoor tennis courts, multi-sport court, bike park, skate park

Signage will be posted at each facility reminding users to observe health and safety precautions and follow best practices for physical distancing. These measures will help to ensure a safe outdoor recreation space for all. Users are expected to continue to adhere to public health guidelines of maintaining 2 metres of physical distance, no sharing of equipment, practicing good hand hygiene, and staying home if sick.

To support community health and prevent the spread of COVID-19, Panorama Recreation, SEAPARC, and SSI PARC were directed to close facilities on March 17. Following the announcement of the provincial government’s Restart Plan for BC, staff are working diligently to revise programs and services to follow provincial health guidelines. Information about further reopening of the recreation facilities will be available at a later date.

Registration for summer camps and programs is currently open only for Panorama Recreation camps and programs. At SEAPARC, DeMamiel Creek Golf Course opened on May 1 with additional precautions to support a healthy and safe environment.
