John Cade, Island Resident, family man and local business owner. An Islander for over 20 years, with Salt Spring roots going back to the 60's. Over the years John has done many things on the Island; Owned The Vesuvius Store, started a bus transit company and of course since 2000 his the real estate business at Pemberton holmes. We caught up with him at his office downtown to ask him our favourite five short questions.
Q. What brought you to Salt Spring Island.
A. My parents bought property in the 60âs. I spent my summers here so it was like coming home. The decision to buy the Vesuvius Store and move the family here was easy.
Q. What one thing about Salt Spring would you tell someone who has never visited the island.
A. Itâs like a Star Trek Tribble. Warm, fuzzy, no teeth or claws and it doesnât move much by itself. We donât have any extremes of weather, dangerous animals or crime.
Q. If you had a magic Salt Spring wand, what island thing would you change.
A. Become a Municipality so we would have some coherence to decision making.
Q. Which well known person, living or dead, do you think would be a good addition to the island.
A. Mark Twain- wit and wisdom
Q. Is there a really good interview question should I have asked you....and what would the answer be.
1. What do you feel is missing on Salt Spring?
2. A core economic anchor besides tourism like a University or College that would provide good jobs, allow the youth to stay on the island longer and attract students from abroad, provide a summer work force and be non-intrusive to the environment.
