"All the paintings in this series are dialogues of various elements, ranging from organic to cosmic. They are between male and female, creation and destruction and other opposites that exist in life. This dialogue is completed with Sea Demons and a new phase starts with the Wave in the Tree."-George Fertig, from his exhibition invite from the Roman Gallery, Vancouver, B.C., 1957.
George Fertig was a Jungian, a symbolist, a socialist and an outsider. But above all he was an artist struggling to survive in mid-century Vancouver. (1915-1983). He corresponded briefly with Carl G. Jung and was profoundly influenced by his writings.
Comes with the artist's in-depth and illustrated biography. The Life and Art of George Fertig by Mona Fertig, Mother Tongue Publishing 2010. 162 pages, full colour.
" Spiritually inspired and meticulously crafted, Fertig's paintings seek to challenge each viewer to contemplate the relationships that exist between time and space and the subjects he has chosen to represent."–Darrin Martens; former Director/Curator of the Burnaby Art Gallery.
