An interview with Tour Salt Spring owner Jason Griffin, Japanese Taiko music recorded at last Sunday’s Blossom Picnic at Heiwa Garden, and an interview with children’s author Margriet Ruurs discussing Salt Spring Island Little Libraries are among the many exciting offerings this week on your community radio station CHIR-FM. Tune in to 107.9 FM (or 102.1 FM in the South End) or stream the station online to hear more than 20 unique local programs on the Voice of the Gulf Islands.
Sunday (May 24) and/or Tuesday (May 26) 3-4 p.m: Harmonic Expeditions with air recordings of the 15th Annual Blossom Picnic at the Heiwa Garden in Ganges that took place May 17. If you missed the event, CHIR-FM host Mike Chin was there to capture the Shimakaze Taiko band perform on their big Japanese drums as well as some cross-cultural music by the Roly Poly String Trio with a high resolution audio recorder. This is also an opportunity to explore the world of Japanese Taiko or drums, which has achieved broad international appeal over the past half century.
