An interview with acclaimed author Kathy Page, recordings from the recent SoundGardens festival at Beaver Point Hall, an interview with the members of an exciting new musical project Zhinga, and a show featuring songs or bands with plants or vegetation in their titles are among the stimulating offerings this week on your community radio station CHIR-FM. Sunday (May 3) 3-4 p.m. (or possibly Tuesday May 5): On Harmonic Expeditions, host Mike Chin shares performances form the recent SoundGardens festival at Beaver Point Hall organized by Of Sound Minds, created by Peter Hatch. Featured are a four-string improvisational performance; multiple digital/electronic eight-channel audio pieces, some entirely artificial others morphed from natural sounds; a time and clocks art concept installation; and the second performance of a unique trance-evocative classical guitar concerto.
Tuesday (May 5) 10-11 a.m: On TRUpreneur, host David Crouch interviews Sandi Poystila about the many years spent at her former business The Islands Marketplace.
Tuesday (May 5) 1-2 p.m.: On This Song, That Time, host Lesley Grott will be thinking of spring and playing songs or bands with plants or vegetation in their titles. She welcomes your song or show theme suggestions at thissong@chir.fm.
Tuesday (May 5) 5-6 p.m. On Connections, an interview with the members of Zhinga, guitarist Drew Fernandes, vocalist Carrie Ingrisano and bassist Bruce Grey. Zhinga is an exciting new SSI musical project blending Brazilian and Latin influences with pop interpretations, while also showcasing and reimagining Carrie’s original songs—many of which were developed during her years as a musician in Brazil and Chicago. The group’s sound reflects both musical exploration and a shared love of rhythm, melody, and storytelling.

Ingrisano:) Vocalist Carrie Ingrisano and her Zhinga bandmates Drew Fernandes and Bruce Grey will be the featured guests this Tuesday from 5-6 p.m. on Connections hosted by David Minkow.
Thursday (May 7) 10-11 a.m. On Check it Out, host and library volunteer Cecilia Low interviews acclaimed Salt Spring-based author Kathy Page, whose recent memoir “In This Faulty Machine” is about living with Parkinson’s disease.
