What's On This Week on CHIR-FM

A look at how and why fish talk, an interview with author and actor Chris Humphreys, and a show featuring the early great music from artists more known for later pop hits are among the exciting offerings this week on CHIR-FM, the Voice of the Gulf Islands. Tune in to 107.9 FM (or 102.1 FM in the South End) or stream the station online to hear more than 20 unique local programs on your community radio station.

Highlights for the coming week include:

Tuesday (July 7) 5-6 p.m. On Connections, hosted by David Minkow, check out great early songs from artists more known for poppy hits, from Bob Seger to Genesis to the J Geils Band. Show re-airs Thursdays at 5 pm and Saturdays at 5 pm.

Wednesday (July 8) 5-6 p.m. On Archipelager Hour, midshipmen humming, herring farts, and ecological futuration. How and why do fish talk? An interview with Dr Audrey Looby of fishsounds.net with a focus on the Plainfin Midshipman, the fish species currently humming and laying eggs around intertidal boulders at Baker Beach and around the Gulf Islands. Hosts Robin Jenkinson and Ryan Dentry discuss the Salish Sea Institute, Reciprocity Trust, and time travel to a utopic future, sprinkled with Freak Nasty and En Vogue.

Midshipman: This Wednesday (July 8) from 5-6 p.m. on Archipelager Hour, a look at how and why do fish talk, including a focus on the plainfin midshipman, the fish species currently humming and laying eggs around intertidal boulders at Baker Beach and around the Gulf Islands. It’s About Story Time: Wednesday 8-9 p.m. A weekly exploration of poetry, short fiction, and music around a curated theme with AmanDa Bapty.
Tonic: Thursday 9-11 a.m. Two hours of music, viewpoints, and conversations with David Crouch.
Hide and Seek: Thursday 8-10 p.m. Ben Corno explores 100 years of popular music with a focus on Western modern but an interest in all the rest.
Nocturnal Emissions: Thursday 10 p.m.-2 a.m. Dan Snakehead offers up Mixcloud's #1 Canadian Drum & Bass broadcast since 2020.
Soundscape: Friday 11-12 a.m. Frank Allen plays an eclectic selection of music, drawing from all musical forms.

Techno J Extravaganza. Friday 7-8 p.m. Mark O’Neill presents a musical mix of your favourites (lots of Rock and Roll).
Hip Hop on the Rock: Friday 9-10 p.m. Explore Dano Hammer's eclectic collection of Canadian and international alternative hip hop.
