Key Components to Facilitation with Youth is a training course offered by The Circle Salt Spring Education Society. Facilitation is part of what makes our programs successful. Our facilitators strive to build relationships with youth, which allows us to explore “heavy” topics with a playful tone. Our approach is focussed on giving youth the skills to develop their own insights around these topics. We don’t want to teach them right or wrong; we want them to think critically about the topics and what it means for them.
In this introductory course, you will gain knowledge and practice with the signature facilitation tools and techniques that we use in our youth programs including: setting the tone, creating the ideal session structure, using games and improv activities to engage youth, developing group agreements and using practices like the circle to create shared accountability.
You’ll get 7.5 hours of in-person training and a companion workbook that includes tips, how-to’s, and space for note-taking.
The training is limited to 8 people to ensure that you’ll have time to participate. Be prepared to have fun—sessions include plenty of games and activities.
You’ll walk away with some new techniques that can help you build trust with youth and build strong foundations for social-emotional learning.
