What I have to offer is ten years of experience as a therapist as well as a lifetime dedicated to the study and practice of healing, growth and awakening. More importantly, I truly care about you and your issues and I have the knowledge and experience to help. Having grown up on Salt Spring and had a home here my entire life, I know island life well, but I have also travelled a lot and lived long-term in Victoria, Montreal and NYC.
In addition to having a BA and MA from McGill University and a three-year post-masters degree in Marital and Family Therapy, I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and a Board Certified Life Coach. I am also a long-term teacher and practitioner of mindfulness and meditation, and had the honour of practicing under the direct guidance of Pema Chödrön for a three-month retreat. I was also a college professor for thirteen years.
I specialize in psychotherapy with individuals and couples, and am particularly experienced at working with trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem and relationship issues.
When working with individuals, I draw mainly on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical and Behavioural Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing, Positive Psychology and Transpersonal Psychology.
When working with couples and families, in addition to elements from the approaches mentioned above, I use Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, The Gottman Method, Imago Relationship Therapy, Integrative Behavioural Couples Therapy and Relational Life Therapy.
I am currently offering online sessions only, but this will likely change in the next few weeks.
