Get ready for a swinging night of jazz with The Ostara Project! Ostara’s one-week immersive experience culminates in this energetic performance of “Roots & Wings,” Ostara’s double-album project.

Part of Ostara’s “The Ancestors’ Project,” this deeply personal program journeys through works that embody roots — ancestral connections, personal histories, and cultural legacies — and wings — bold creative risk-taking and musical freedom. Brought to life by Jodi Proznick (bass), Amanda Tosoff (piano), Claire Devlin (sax), Rachel Therrien (trumpet), Valérie Lacombe (drums), and guest vocalist Kim Zombik.

Highlights include Tosoff’s "Dreams and Olive Trees," inspired by Bulgarian folk traditions and featuring wordless vocals and shifting rhythmic landscapes; Shruti Ramani’s "Rajalakshmi,” a cross-cultural fusion honouring her grandmother, seamlessly combining Hindustani classical vocal phrasing with jazz improvisation; Lacombe’s "Raven Haven,” a spirited, hard-bop inspired piece echoing the energy and mystery of the ravens of Whitehorse, and many more.

ABOUT THE OSTARA PROJECT:

Did you know that only 5% of professional jazz instrumentalists are women? The Ostara Project is changing that. Named for the Germanic goddess of the spring equinox, Ostara embodies hope and renewal by showcasing the formidable strength and creativity of Canada’s leading female jazz artists.

This ensemble brings together a powerhouse collective of visionaries, each a bandleader and composer in her own right: Jodi Proznick on bass, Amanda Tosoff on piano, Claire Devlin on saxophone, Rachel Therrien on trumpet, and Valérie Lacombe on drums, featuring vocalist Kim Zombik. From March 10th to March 14th, join these incredible artists for a powerful weeklong celebration of women in jazz at ArtSpring.

Tickets are $10 for youth and $42 for adults. Twenty $15 Theatre Angel tickets are also available on a first-come, first-serve basis (online purchase code: THEATREANGEL).
