"Many thanks also to our many cooks and volunteers who prepared the food, and also all who contributed to fund this meal — Country Grocer’s who were long-time supporters of Stone Soup, and also Copper Kettle, Dan Dickmeyer, Haley Jones, Harry Warner and others.
A special thank you as well to Pastor Chris Saffel who was instrumental in helping Gabriel with this project from the very beginning, and the congregation of the Baptist Church who contributed funds over the years and to this memorial.
Gabriel had many helpers over the years who helped cook and transport meals to the park. Dave Keppling, Robyn Crosby, Hannah Dayneswood and Paul among others were constant and valuable assistants in the process.
The Chuan Society has started a fund to build Gabriel’s Kitchen, a place where the community can prepare and share meals together. This is based on many discussions around food security and the challenges of making proper meals when one lacks access to a proper kitchen and storage. The other recognition is the importance of social gathering spaces to build relationships and bridges between the members of our island community.
We’re looking for a spot near the Ganges core to build a sheltered area, with stoves, fridges, equipment, seating and a food garden. A place we can build together as a community. We invite you to contribute in any way to this project, whether that be access to land, building skills, equipment, fresh food from your farm or garden.
We are also accepting donations to fund this project. Inquiries as well as e-transfers can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Again, many thanks. We hope to do Gabriel proud and continue the work and values he brought to this community."
