    Item Description:

Salt Spring Island has long had a very vibrant photographic community. The number of photographers on island and the variety in their visions continues to grow, perhaps fed by the beauty and creativity that surrounds us in this unique place.
The islands’ two main photo groups, Photosynthesis and the Photo Club, have been holding annual shows for several years. As if a photography festival was already naturally in formation, all that was necessary was to align the dates of those events to launch the idea for the Salt Spring Island Photofest.
In 2018, a festival committee was formed by volunteers from Photosynthesis and the Photo Club: Pierre Mineau, Judy McPhee, Alane Lalonde, Jana Zachariou, Amy Melious, Wendy Rosier, and Avril Kirby. Meetings were held and tasks distributed. Several other island venues enthusiastically agreed to jump on board to host exhibits or sponsor the event, and the first island photography festival has become an exciting reality.
The festival committee is grateful for the support of many local businesses, including Presenting Sponsor Country Grocer, and Major Sponsor, the Salt Spring Arts Council.
Salt Spring Photofest runs from June 13 to 26th, island-wide. Maps showing exhibit locations are available at the Tourist Info Centre, Artspring, Gallery 8 and several other participating venues. For more information, visit: http://www.saltspringphotofest.com
June 14, is the opening night for the festival.
We have staggered opening times so you can enjoy both openings.
    Photosynthesis at Artspring from 4:30 – 7pm
Eclectic Visions at Gallery 8, from 5 – 8 pm.

The waters around our island are experiencing another push for industrialization. Freighters started anchoring at our island. Similar to a factory or refinery they are bringing industrial pollution – chronic engine and generator noise, lights, air and water pollution. More anchorages are expected and will affect more beaches and neighbourhoods. There is no protection in […]
