Salt Spring Local Government Elections - All Candidates Forum

Want to find out where candidates for our local government elections stand on the issues you care about?

Find out at a special online All Candidates Meeting brought to you by Transition Salt Spring and Salt Spring Solutions.

Salt Spring Islanders have some important choices to make when we vote for our CRD Director and two Islands Trust Local Trustees on October, 15, 2022.

Hear what the candidates have to say about the challenges facing our community. Issues like climate change, growing inequality, homelessness, environmental degradation, island governance, aging or absent infrastructure will test the abilities of our elected officials. Which candidates are best positioned to best address these urgent issues?

A series of questions has been distributed to all candidates in advance to encourage reflective responses on important issues affecting Salt Spring. All registered candidates have been invited to attend.

Salt Spring Island has two levels of local government, the Capital Regional District (represented by one “Electoral Area Director”) and the Islands Trust (represented by two locally elected “Local Trustees”, and one Trustee from another island in the Islands Trust area).

Our system is unique, and Island residents can sometimes misunderstand the respective roles of each the CRD, the Islands Trust, the provincial government and the federal government when it comes to providing the services in our community. We are pleased to welcome planner and former Islands Trust Chief Administration Officer Linda Adams who will provide a brief overview of the services each local government body provides before the candidates respond to questions to help participants follow the conversation.
