Gulf islands International Program is actively looking for new Host Families for our international students joining us at the Gulf Island Secondary School for the 2023-24 school year. We’re also urgently looking for host families who would be available for short term placements for students in situations where a host family might need to be pulled away for a family emergency.

You could make lifelong relationships, be a student’s home away from home and be able to share the beauty of our community with them!

If you are interested in this opportunity, host families are provided:
Currently $950 per month per student ($1000 per month as of September 2023) - students must have their own bedroom
Ongoing support
24/7 emergency phone access
Students who are fully vaccinated for Covid-19

What is a homestay family?

A homestay family is just that – a family! You welcome a student into your home and treat them as if they were one of your own children. Our host families are diverse, and we welcome all family units, such as single persons, single parents, couples without children, empty nesters, grandparents, and families with children. Our host families have the option of hosting for one semester, a full school year and/or temporary short-term placements.

We have a few students joining us with allergies to cats and pets, so we would like to welcome new families who would be able to accommodate the needs of these students. We also have a few students who require a vegetarian diet and one young lady who requires a vegan diet, if this is similar to your family’s diet, and you are interested in hosting, this may be a perfect fit for your family. Please note, our hosts will be compensated for these dietary requests.
