Gently Down the Stream, by Martin Sherman, coming to ArtSpring on Saturday, October 7, stars Scott Merrick, Wyatt Floerke and Dustin Bragg-Van Wyck and is directed by Suzanne Rouger. Beau, an expat pianist living in Montreal, meets Rufus, an eccentric young lawyer, at the dawn of the internet dating revolution. After a life spent recovering from the disappointment and hurt of loving men in a world that refused to allow it, Beau is determined to keep his expectations low with Rufus. But Rufus comes from a generation of men who believe happiness is as much their right as anyone else's and what Beau assumed to be another fling grows into one of the most defining relationships of his life. Gently Down the Stream reflects the triumphs and heartaches of the entire length of the gay rights movement, celebrating the men and women who led the way to equality, marriage and the right to dream. Filled with references to queer icons and true events, it's a play you will not want to miss. Funny and tragic, it is above all a story of caring and love. Live music by Suzanne Gay and Jim Shultz.
