Entelechy is hosting its first Ecovillage Design Education this August, right here on Salt Spring.
The EDE is an internationally recognised curriculum developed by Gaia Education and the Global Ecovillage Network. It covers four dimensions of sustainable community design, roughly one per day: ecological, social, economic, and worldview. Practically, that means food systems, natural building, water and energy, alongside the parts that are harder to learn from a book, community governance, decision-making, conflict resolution, and how a community can generate enough of its own livelihood to sustain itself.
It is taught by people who live at Entelechy and are building the place in real time, so the material is illustrated by the actual work going on around us: the gardens, the structures, the decisions we are still working out as a community.
The course runs August 9 to 15. Participants arrive Sunday evening and instruction runs Monday through Saturday. Accommodation on the land and communal meals sourced from local farms and our own gardens are included.
This is for anyone thinking about starting a community, joining one, or simply understanding how they actually work. No prior experience required.
Maximum 22 participants.
