Merit Motion Pictures and Art for Ancient Trees are holding this fundraiser to raise awareness about logging in the last 3% of British Columbia’s big tree ancient forests. Endangered old-growth areas such as the Caycuse watershed on Vancouver Island are actively being logged and others such as Fairy Creek are still at risk. We are supporting the Ancient Forest Alliance’s mission to protect BC’s endangered old-growth forests and ensure a sustainable, value-added, second-growth forest industry.
In addition to this viewing, you can also support this important cause and local artists by purchasing a piece of art at Art for Ancient Trees’ online art auction (bidding closes July 30, 2021). There are over 60 pieces for sale – original and prints of many themes and styles – by artists like Robert Bateman, Jill Louise Campbell, Mahtab Firouzabadi, Kelly Kiss, Gillian Gandossi, Hristina Hristozova, Dominik Modlinski and many more. Prices start at $20. Please see our website here: https://www.artforancienttrees.com/
Cutting down these giants of the universe with their unique DNA is akin to burning down a living library of medicine. The ancient forest system of Fairy Creek and all others like it work for the entire web of life on this planet, being the key iron supply to the feeding foundation of the ocean. These ancient forests contain Mother Trees – powerful giants that supply the soil with a full array of nutrients as well as support plant and animal life around them.
This event is in support of and not produced by the Ancient Forest Alliance.
All profit from the screening and 50% of art auction proceeds will go to the Ancient Forest Alliance.
About the Ancient Forest Alliance:
The Ancient Forest Alliance (AFA) is a registered non-profit society dedicated to protecting BC’s remarkable and endangered old-growth forests while ensuring a sustainable, value-added, second-growth forest industry. The AFA has grown rapidly since our founding in 2010, reaching international audiences through our hard-hitting advocacy and awareness-raising campaigns. We specialize in public education and engagement; building alliances with key allies such as chambers of commerce, unions, and First Nations; research; and lobbying governments to achieve policy change for BC’s ancient forests. There has never been a better time to give a gift for ancient forests. Until August 13, 2021, every donation to the AFA will be matched, dollar-for-dollar by a very generous supporter up to $10,000! To learn more about BC’s endangered ancient forests and what it will take to protect them, visit www.ancientforestalliance.org.
