Deadline for Submissions: Friday, March 5, 2021, 5pm.
The Salt Spring Arts Council (SSAC) is inviting proposals from Southern Gulf Island residents (Salt Spring Island, Galiano, Mayne, Saturna, Pender Islands) for our 2021 Art on the Hall Mini-Murals.
We are seeking proposals that celebrate life and art in the southern Gulf Islands and reflect the Arts Council’s commitment to community, creativity and connection. During the spring and summer months, Mahon Hall – home of the Salt Spring Arts Council – welcomes as many as 14,000 visitors. Selected murals will be displayed on the outside of the historic building from April to mid-September, 2021.
As part of our 14th Annual Easter Art Show, April 2 – 11, we are seeking submissions from visual artists interested in painting a vertical 4x8ft mural.
Selected artists can choose to complete and deliver the work by March 31st, or may complete the mural on the grounds of Mahon Hall during the Easter Art Show (SSAC will provide a tent). SSAC will provide a primed plywood and clear coating (finished works should be able to take a clear protective coat, or otherwise withstand the elements), and artists will provide all other materials. Selected artists will receive a $625 honorarium and a 1-year SSAC membership, and works will be returned to the artist in mid-September.
Interested Artists must complete an online form. Include a short biography, statement of intent for the mural, 3-5 samples of recent artworks, a detailed plan or sketch of the proposed mural including a description of materials and / or colours.
