The venue is an 11,800 square-foot, two-level structure, boasting a 6,600-square-foot 259-seat theatre and a 5,200-square-foot exhibition/multi-purpose area. ArtSpring hosts 300 events each year, primarily associated with rentals by local performing and visual artists of all ages, film screenings, and speaker series. The curated season of professional touring artists – ArtSpring Presents – features music, dance, theatre, and performance art of provincial, national, and international calibre to enhance what is available through other local arts organizations.

The Technical Director (TD) has the daily responsibility for the technical operations of the ArtSpring theatre, including lighting, sound, carrying out/coordinating maintenance and repair, and other duties as required.

ArtSpring also looks to the TD to anticipate, analyze, and evaluate the need for technical support for various events and performances as well as plan, develop, schedule and provide those supports.

The TD reports directly to the Executive/Artistic Director. The position requires working with a great deal of independence and exercising independent judgment in performing a wide variety of duties. Because of the operating hours of this facility, close supervision is not normally required nor expected.

Selected Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years experience in technical theatre positions.
• Education in theatre, lighting, and audio practices at a Degree, Diploma, or Certificate level (preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.)
• Demonstrated competence with theatre technology including digital audio consoles and lighting consoles. Video and computer proficiency.
• A working knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures of theatre, dance, and music productions and presentations including stage, set, sound and lighting design and implementation; stage management; computerized lighting systems; stage carpentry; appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
