Dementia affects hundreds of thousands of Canadians, and the numbers continue to rise. According to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, more than 771,000 Canadians are currently living with dementia, and by 2030 that number could rise to nearly one million. This would represent a 51% increase in new dementia cases annually compared to 2020, with rates projected to rise by more than 200% by 2050 as the population ages.
The Alzheimer Society will be offering a free community presentation on understanding dementia, the different forms it can take, and practical ways to communicate with those living with memory loss and cognitive changes.
The session aims to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and provide valuable tools for anyone supporting a person living with dementia, whether at home, in the workplace, or within the community. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about available supports and resources.
This educational event is free to attend and welcomes all members of the community.
