Local Community Commission candidates answer questions on health and healthcare

Salt Spring Island’s Local Community Commission (LCC) Election is scheduled for Saturday, May 27, 2023. The election will see our island select four commissioners to serve on the commission alongside Gary Holman, Salt Spring Island Electoral Area Director. To support community members in learning about the positions of LCC candidates, particularly in relation to health and healthcare on our island, Lady Minto Hospital Foundation (LMHF) invited candidates to answer a brief questionnaire. COVID-19: Salt Spring Community Raises $125,000 for Lady Minto Hospital

Thank You, Salt Spring! – We Counted on You – and You Came Through! A big island thank you to everyone who has contributed to COVID-19 Relief during this unprecedented time. Through your generosity, we have raised $125,000 to help Lady Minto Hospital cope with this pandemic. To date, your donations have been used to provide: Hospital Scrubs C-Can container for COVID supplies Personal Protective Equipment for community medical staff and first responders The hospital is now well positioned to respond to immediate, short-term and longer-term needs, should this emergency situation continue for some time. Endoscopies at Lady Minto Hospital Turn Things “Inside Out”

Walk into the Endoscopy Room at Lady Minto, on a Tuesday, and you’ll find yourself in the midst of bright lights. The procedure is an endoscopy, which includes colonoscopies and gastroscopies. The cast includes the great OR teams of Lady Minto Hospital nurses and doctors. The leading man…Dr. John Morse, the specialist behind all this activity. How did Salt Spring Island end up so lucky to have access to his services? John Morse and his family had been living up in Yellowknife for the past 18 years. During this time, Dr. Shane Barclay was working part time in Fort Simpson and they became friends. Apparently the conversation went something like, “if you ever get tired of working in the north and want to work in BC, let me know.” Eventually a move south became very appealing and the Morse’s moved to Maple Bay.
