A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Salt Spring Community

The Board of Directors of Greenwoods Eldercare Society expresses our deep gratitude for the overwhelming response to our recent annual appeal. Your generosity has been profoundly touching. We are especially grateful to Country Grocer and to an anonymous donor who together offered to match the first $10,000 in donations received before December 31. Thanks to the remarkable outpouring of support from this community, that matching challenge was fully met - doubling the impact of those early gifts and inspiring others to join in supporting our mission. We are also deeply grateful to our Residents and Family Council for their meaningful support of the campaign and their advocacy for Greenwoods. As we shared in our appeal, the demands on eldercare continue to grow while public resources struggle to keep pace. Appeal to Support Greenwoods During BC Government Funding Cuts

As members of the Greenwoods Residents Family Council with loved ones in long-term care, we are concerned about the personal and community-wide consequences of recent provincial government funding cuts. In mid September 2025, the provincial government informed eldercare facilities throughout B.C., including Greenwoods Eldercare Society, that effective October 31st, all overtime and agency funding would be eliminated. For Greenwoods, this meant an approximate $400,000 cut to its annual budget. This government action was taken without any plan to replace the funding deficit. Greenwoods Residential Care Facility is the only secure long-term care home on Salt Spring Island. It provides 50 long-term care beds and one respite care bed. All residents are provided with private rooms and round-the-clock professional care. Greenwoods raffle winner is sitting pretty

We have a winner! Monday, September 11th was the festive draw ceremony for this year’s bench raffle at Greenwoods, and the prize went to Bonnie MacPhail of Brinkworthy Place on Salt Spring. Greenwoods resident Bill Hogg drew the name from the tickets sold this year. Bill is going to be celebrating his 100th birthday later this year. The annual fundraising raffle of a beautiful garden bench to benefit Greenwoods Eldercare has become a celebrated tradition on Salt Spring, now in its twenty-fifth year.
