A quiet cluster of modest cabins, tucked against the trees and resting on blocks, are about to begin a second life on Salt Spring Island. In a move that feels both practical and distinctly local, Fields is giving away eight small cabins to island residents, inviting individuals, families, or groups to apply for the opportunity to relocate and repurpose them. The initiative comes at a time when Salt Spring continues to face a persistent housing shortage, making even small, immediate solutions meaningful. “These cabins were brought in for housing,” said Fields company president Jason McDougall. “It only made sense to keep them serving that purpose.
