Free Transit on Provincial Election Day

GLOBAL - BC Transit and many local government partners across the province are offering free transit on Saturday, October 19, 2024, for the provincial elections. Offering free transit helps make it easier for residents to get to the polls and cast their ballots. Salt Spring Island Fall Service Change

SALT SPRING ISLAND – BC Transit and the Capital Regional District (CRD) are advising customers of a seasonal service change for Salt Spring Island, effective October 1, 2024. Changes will be made to the following routes, to align with ferry schedules: 2 Fulford Harbour 3 Vesuvius 4 Long Harbour There will be a seasonal reduction in trips on Saturdays for route 2 Fulford Harbour. As part of the fall service change, Route 9 Ruckle Park will be seasonally discontinued. Due to construction on Fulford-Ganges Road, there will be some impacts to Route 2 Fulford Harbour and Route 7 Cusheon Lake. NextRide Real-Time Bus Location Technology Now Available

GANGES – BC Transit has launched NextRide, its Automatic Vehicle Location technology, in the Salt Spring Island Regional Transit System. Transit riders can now use smart mobile devices and desktop services to see the real-time location of their bus along its route and the predicted arrival times at identified stops. Onboard, automated announcements call out stop names to customers, which increases comfort and convenience, while also improving the overall accessibility for many using transit. NextRide uses Automatic Vehicle Location technology to report real-time data. This bus location information is provided to mobility providers like Transit App, so customers can track and monitor bus routes using an application that works best for them. It is recommended that customers use NextRide in one of the following ways: Transit App (mobile only); Google Maps (desktop and mobile); BC Transit Website; Their own favorite trip planning app; or Refer to the rider’s guide. …

Summer Service Change for Salt Spring Island Transit

BC Transit and the Capital Regional District are informing transit users of an upcoming change to the Salt Spring Island Transit System effective June 26, 2024. Changes are being made to routes that will better align with the BC Ferries’ schedule. In addition, Route 9 service to Ruckle Park will be reintroduced for the summer season. Winter weather service impact reminder from BC Transit

As winter weather continues throughout the province, BC Transit is reminding customers that they may experience some delays, detours or even cancellations when road conditions become challenging. The safety of our customers and drivers is our top priority. While our local government partners work hard to maintain the best road conditions possible, there are times when ice and snow can result in changes to BC Transit’s existing schedule on short notice. Delays are likely during icy conditions and poor visibility, detours may be required for certain routes due to elevation changes or unplowed roads and full-service cancellations can occur when travel of any kind is determined to be unsafe. Summer service change coming to Salt Spring Island

BC Transit and the Capital Regional District are announcing a seasonal service change for the Salt Spring Island Transit System effective June 29, 2022. Service on select routes in the system is being adjusted to match demand and align with BC Ferries’ schedules. These changes cause other routes, which do not directly serve the ferry terminals, to be adjusted as well. In addition, the service change sees the implementation of Route 9 service to Ruckle Park for the summer season. Increased bus service this spring on Salt Spring Island

BC Transit and the Capital Regional District are informing transit customers of some seasonal changes, beginning Saturday May 7, 2022. These spring changes will see an increase in some trips to align with ferry schedules. The changes will affect the Saturday schedule for route 2 Fulford Harbour. There will be an earlier morning service to meet the first ferry of the day as well as southbound service along Cusheon Lake Road on select trips. COVID-19: BC Transit to Mandate Use of Face Coverings

BC Transit, in alignment with TransLink and other transportation agencies, will be proceeding with mandatory use of face coverings on buses in BC Transit communities across the Province as of August 24. Accommodations will be permitted for children under the age of 5 and those that cannot wear a face covering for health reasons. We recognize the advice from health professionals, including Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, has been to wear face coverings when physical distancing is not possible including on transit vehicles. Customers have indicated making the use of face coverings mandatory will create a more comfortable environment. “Transit is an important service for many British Columbians. Bus Ridership on the Rise

SALT SPRING ISLAND – For the third consecutive year transit ridership is growing on Salt Spring Island – up 8.4% over last year. In its recently published annual report, BC Transit recorded 100,860 passenger trips in 2013/14 compared to 93,013 trips in 2012/13. A modest increase in operating hours last fall was well-received by BC Transit customers particularly in the Fernwood area where ridership doubled within the first three months of the new route structure. BC Transit and the Capital Regional District (CRD) continue to look for opportunities to encourage ridership and to make efficient use of operating hours and resources. An open house and online survey was conducted in April of this year. SALT SPRING ISLAND – Summer is coming soon and Salt Spring Island and BC Transit are increasing transit service hours to match growing demand. Beginning Wednesday June 25, 2014 service levels in the Salt Spring Island Transit System are being boosted. The summer service will see frequency improvements on all routes and especially on the ferry-fed #2 Fulford Harbour route where customers will note more trips on Saturday afternoons. Ridership on a Roll on Salt Spring

SALT SPRING ISLAND – The Capital Regional District (CRD), Salt Spring Island Transportation Commission (SSITC) and BC Transit are pleased to announce ridership is up more than 15% when comparing September through December 2012 with September through December 2013. In September 2013, a modest increase in operating hours was introduced with new service to Walker’s Hook, expanded service to Fernwood and enhanced routing to Vesuvius. The response from Salt Spring Island’s loyal customer base was overwhelming, particularly in Fernwood where ridership has doubled September through December, year over year. The transit system on Salt Spring Island has increased every year since it first began in 2008 with 45,980 passenger trips. Five years later, passenger trips have more than doubled to 93,013 in 2013.
