This Full Moon is a contemplative one, occurring at 8° Capricorn at 4:57 pm PT within hours of two other significant astrological transits, as Mercury stations retrograde and Jupiter moves into Leo.
With Saturn as the ruler of this Full Moon, it’s time for a reality check. Saturn in Aries also makes a square to this lunation. Look before you leap, prioritize, and create healthier boundaries. Neptune also squares this Full Moon which can distort reality. Be aware of projection (seeing someone or something through rose colored glasses).
Because Mercury also stations direct on the day of this Full Moon, we’re called to re-evaluate the path we’re on. We may experience setbacks in some of our long-term goals and need to revise something. Fortunately, Jupiter moves into Leo which can provide needed optimism, support, and unexpected blessings. The 29th could be a multifaceted day!
The medicine of Capricorn teaches us the wisdom of inhabiting a physical body in the earthly realm, and that our time here is ephemeral and finite. It also reminds us that it's the fleeting nature of life that makes it all the more precious. In Jungian parlance, Capricorn is connected to the "Senex", or the Wise Elder. Capricorn represents our psychic DNA, passed down tradition and wisdom, as well as inherited intersections of privilege and oppression.
Because the Full Moon in Capricorn is opposite the Sun in Cancer, it’s an opportunity to reflect on how we balance responsibility, career and outer life with our home, emotional needs, family and inner life. This Full Moon asks us to take stock, get real, and reassess our goals and boundaries. To be discerning about what and who receives even a moment of our numbered days.
And while this may sound sobering, that is the magic of Capricorn. To work with what is and commit to what matters. Capricorn asks us who we are at our core when we let go of the distractions. We're called to define our edges and cultivate healthier boundaries that support rather than hinder.
Capricorn teaches us to live with purpose.
Capricorn's ruling planet is Saturn, an archetype that represents the principle of reality. Saturn is the god of harvest, the ‘Lord of Time’ whose greatest lesson is that if we mindfully select the seeds we want to plant and then take the time to nurture those seeds, the harvest we gather is more likely to be one of abundance.
Working with Saturn, or learning the stories of the goddesses who align with the archetype of the Wise Elder, such as Baba Yaga, Holle, Befana, or An Cailleach, can help us connect with the comforting, and sometimes fierce wisdom of the Grandmothers.
No Full Moon occurs in a vacuum, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t contemplate the backdrop of Chiron’s recent move into Taurus, which signifies a major shift in the zeitgeist. It will be in the sign of the Bull until 2034, with a brief retrograde back into Aries between September 2026 and April 2027.
Chiron in Taurus will show us where we feel split off from our own bodies and our connection to the earth. It’s long been said that the treatment of women is connected to the treatment of the earth, a construct which is grounded in patriarchal systems.
From 2028 through 2030 Chiron in Taurus will form a square to Pluto in Aquarius, underlining the cataclysmic impact that AI data centers have on biological systems – food, land, farming, and life on earth. Even though the exact square is two years away, the conversation is already underway and will intensify as Chiron moves deeper into Taurus.
And while AI is unfortunately here to stay, Chiron in Taurus will be a stubborn force calling people back to the land, back to the body, back to life.
And far from AI slop taking over, I have faith that there will be those who will always prioritize the brilliant, fierce and tender creative output of human minds, hands, and hearts.
Perhaps human created art, writing, and music will be at a premium as we tire of the endlessly generated artificial detritus that’s being forced upon us, and creators will finally be paid fairly for their work.
Spending time in nature, gardening, right livelihood, slower living, environmentally conscious food production, plant medicine, less screen time - these are the ways home - to a simple, sane, and hopefully, sustainable future.
