Each Full Moon brings its own wisdom, teachings, and medicine through the lens of a particular archetype. The Full Moon will often bring something to fruition and illuminate things that have been hidden. Each month we experience a subtle shift as the Full Moon highlights specific archetypal themes, emotions, and feelings. For many, the Full Moon amplifies the way we interpret and experience both our inner world and the world around us.
Happy Full Moon in Libra!
The first Full Moon of the astrological year lights up the skies at 12° Libra (7:12 pm PT) on April 1st. We’ve just moved through a particularly trying Mercury retrograde and eclipse season and stepped across the seasonal threshold with Spring Equinox and the beginning of Aries. Because this is the beginning of a new Solar year, we can allow this Full Moon to clarify our direction before we hit the ground running. There are currently no retrogrades holding us back, and the energy of April will be full steam ahead.
Libra is ruled by the planet Venus, and relationships are at the core of this archetype. While all Full Moons amplify feelings, the Full Moon in Libra also illuminates what you’ve been avoiding in relationship.
This Full Moon asks the questions:
- Where do you perform for approval over speaking your actual truth?
- Where do you avoid conflict to keep the peace?
- Do you self-abandon in certain relationships to keep the status quo?
These aren’t shortcomings, they’re adaptations.
People pleasing develops as a survival mechanism and is part and parcel with the Libra shadow. And while it can be difficult to see this pattern within ourselves, this Full Moon can shine a light on our blind spots to help us reclaim our authenticity.
During this Full Moon, we may have the opportunity to regain balance, repair relationships, and strengthen connections. Those with a cardinal (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) inner planet (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) or an angle (like the rising sign) near 12°, will especially feel this Full Moon in terms of relationship dynamics.
The Libra Full Moon opposes the Sun in Aries, and the Libra/Aries axis highlights the balance between ‘me and ‘we’. Oppositions invite us to find the middle ground, to integrate polarity. With Libra (connection, relationships, harmony) and Aries (independence, individuality, personal identity) the key is to find balance between connection and self-respect. To have the courage to cultivate healthier realtional boundaries.
For some of us, a relationship dilemma will become clear. Some will reach a turning point regarding Self/Other as things come to a head under the light of this Full Moon. However, it’s not always about throwing the baby out with the bathwater, try making small conscious improvements that take everyone’s needs into consideration.
This Full Moon is square Jupiter, so watch for heightened emotions, or magnified or overblown interactions. But Mercury trine Jupiter will bring meaningful conversations, optimistic mindset, and plenty of ideas to work out solutions that take everyone’s needs into consideration.
This dynamic will also be playing out on the world stage. Conflict may be raging, but diplomacy can take the upper hand, hopefully diffusing tensions and finding a settlement that ultimately creates a path to peace.
5 Ways to Approach this Full Moon
- Protect your peace. Avoid escalation
- Set firm boundaries around what you will tolerate and where you’ll draw the line
- Pause before acting, remain calm and neutral
- Communicate respectfully but be specific and clear
- Move toward self-regulation: breathing, mindfulness, ground yourself with a time out or a walk in nature
