The group presented a case centred on connection and the transformative role multi-use trails play in community infrastructure. Moving beyond the concept of a simple recreational path, the delegation outlined a roadmap for a safer future, positioning the trail as a critical investment in active transportation that promises significant, sustainable and economic benefits for generations.

Central to the presentation was the new Feasibility Study, which validates what cycling advocates on Salt Spring have long maintained: a separated, multi-use trail across the island from Fulford to Vesuvius is both possible and practical. The study details a "shovel-ready" plan with a rationalized cost of $63 million, achieved by incorporating traffic-calmed side streets and utilizing existing rights-of-way.

Advocates note that momentum for the project is building, with strong support evident within CRD leadership. With $4.6 million already allocated for design and construction and private donors stepping forward, the initiative is approaching a tipping point. However, proponents emphasized that bringing the vision to full fruition will require patience and persistence.

To ensure the momentum continues, Island Pathways is encouraging community members to join the organization. Increased membership is seen as a vital metric to demonstrate to the CRD that the trail is a resource the community is ready to invest in.

The delegation closed their advocacy efforts with a sentiment of deep gratitude: Hych’ka siem.
