2018 Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue - Fire Chief's Report

As Fire Chief of Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue, it is my honour to present the 2018 Annual Fire Chief’s report.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Salt Spring Island Fire Protection District Board of Trustees and volunteer committee members who dedicated countless hours in 2018 for the betterment of our community and the department.

I am exceptionally proud of our men and women that serve in all areas of Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue, they are skilled professionals who are pushed to their physical, mental and emotional limits on a daily basis.

We have designed this report to highlight our performance and accomplishments we celebrated over the year. 2018 was an exciting time for our community as your fire department was able to elevate the level of safety, health and economic viability all while responding to a record high call volume. You continue to experience fast and effective responses due to our training and skilled personnel and the community’s overall level of emergency preparedness was enhanced by focused outreach and life safety education.

I would like to also thank the families of our membership who support their spouses / partners and who are an integral part of our fire service family.

Our goal is to create a healthy community for our staff, residents and visitors. As we look forward to 2019 we see challenges on the horizon in the form of increased service demand and more extreme weather events. The SSIFR is a team of dedicated professionals who are committed to providing exceptional service to our community. The SSIFR is privileged and honoured to serve our great community.

I want to express my sincere appreciation to each member of our service for their extraordinary amount of work and effort that took place over the course of the year.

Sincerely,

Arjuna George
Fire Chief
